Physical features
The Piedmont region is very hilly and full of little streams and rapids. At the southern border of the Piedmont, there is a fall line where streams and rapids slow down and become wider as they enter the Coastal Plain. The Piedmont's soil is full of iron and when water hits the iron it rusts and becomes red. That's why the Piedmont's soil has a distinct red color.
